Caterease, the leading providers of catering and event planning software, recently offered a tour of their state-of-the-art data center to members of a Southwest Florida technology group – and the response was outstanding.
Dozens of attendees turned out earlier this month to learn more about the incredible hardware and security that Caterease offers in this impressive complex. Although Caterease Director of IT Jacob Ackerman says he would have been happy if “15 or 20 people” showed up for the tour, in the end more than 50 attended.
The data center, built within the Caterease corporate office as “a building within a building”, is so unique in its security and redundancy that it has spawned a sister company for cloud data storage – Skylink Data Centers (www.skylinkdc.com). In addition to tens of thousands of Caterease customers all over the world, the data center houses secure data for corporations ranging from commercial construction firms to nonprofit health care providers.
Marc Farron, president of the Southwest Regional Technology Partnership who attended the tour, was extremely impressed with what he saw. “No question it definitely stands out,” he said of the data center, adding that it is the only hardened data center of its kind in the five-county region.
In addition to being unique to the area, Ackerman points out that the data-center is one-of-a-kind in the catering software industry, as well. With secure access, 24/7 monitoring and redundant power supplies, the Caterease data center provides its customers with the utmost in protection. Structurally, the roof is 18 inches thick and the walls are solid concrete reinforced with steel. Even the windows of the surrounding building will handle sustained winds of more than 200 m.p.h. Essentially, as one visitor on the tour joked, it has a “force field” protecting it.
“It’s the safest place in the county,” Ackerman boasts. “So safe that FPL [Florida Power and Light, the nation’s third largest electric company] keeps some of its gear here.”
For Caterease customers, however, the benefits of this remarkable structure go even beyond its physical and technological characteristics, Ackerman maintains. Although he knows of no other company in the industry using such an elaborate and secure facility, Ackerman points out that this particular center has the advantage of being a ten second walk from his desk.
“Not only do we have protections and redundancies in place to minimize any issues,” he says, “but – if something does need attention – one of our technicians can be addressing it in moments.”
In a world where more and companies are putting their faith in “the cloud”, it’s reassuring that the Caterease team has put so much investment into offering the best and most secure cloud service available.
